Nicholas Dematteis - The Essence of Architectural Engineering

If you remember your childhood the same way Nicholas Dematteis does, you can probably bring back some early memories about trying to build sand castles. You might also recall how, if you did not use enough water, you ended up with a big pile of sand. And conversely, if you used too much water, the end result was a slushy mix that was impossible to work with. But if you managed to use just the right amount of water, you were able to build nice, structurally intact sand castles. This is the kind of understanding of materials and their use that is the biggest part of architectural engineering.

Architectural engineering is a specific field within engineering that deals with buildings and structures. In order to achieve the best possible results building structures, architects and engineers often work together. But when you work with an architectural engineer, there is no need to hire two different professionals. One expert can possess all of the necessary knowledge and expertise to build a functioning and practical construction. Architectural engineer can still work together with architects if they need to, and when they do they will be able to convey a much more precise message about their needs on the job, which often will result in a more efficient collaboration.

One of the reasons why architectural engineers are so popular these days has a lot to do with green technologies. These innovations are getting more and more prevalent every day. Nicholas Dematteis often works with these technologies, and he is able to understand the engineering and architecture process from many different perspectives, making him a more versatile professional than a lot of the architects or engineers he works with who don’t carry his diversity of experience.

Nicholas Dematteis - How To Become an Architectural Engineer

Architectural engineers like Nicholas Dematteis are capable of combining the principles of design with the aspects of engineering. This field is called architectural engineering. Professionals in this field are not strictly architects or engineers. They merge the main aspects of both fields into a highly-specific amalgam of professional knowledge. If one wishes to become an architectural engineer, one must earn their qualification through a rigorous education process.

Required Education

In order to become an architectural engineer, one must first earn a Bachelor’s degree. (This implies the successful completion of one’s high school studies before being accepted at a qualified postsecondary education program). Upon earning the diploma, and therefore getting one of the prerequisites necessary to become this kind of professional, one’s next step would be to complete the Fundamentals of Engineering examination, which precedes the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam, both of which are crucial for one’s pursue of the profession.

Bachelor’s Degree Programs

All Bachelor Degrees place an emphasis on math and physics, two key areas for any engineer. And no architectural curriculum can be considered complete without specifications, which is why different engineering regimens are taught as well, including construction and mechanical engineering, the former being extremely important for an aspiring architectural engineer.

Licensing

Earning a diploma and finishing one’s studies does not mean that the process is over. Licensing is the last piece of the puzzle, and it is a very important one. Without it, architectural engineers are unable to complete their professional journey. There are two different kinds of licenses: one that can be taken near graduation called the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, and the other one is the Principles and Practice of Engineering test which can only be taken after four years of work experience. The Professional Engineer certification, known as PE, is usually the last step in becoming a fully licensed architectural engineer. Both exams are regulated by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES), the main body of regulation for the field of engineering in North America.

Employment Outlook and Potential Salary

The employment outlook for budding architectural engineers is quite good. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) conducts studies annually which show a steady financial future for those who choose the profession and are able to find work. The median annual salary from professional Engineers is no less than $75,000 and the projected growth within the profession is robust. One can understand why becoming an engineer is quite alluring for many young people.

Nicholas Dematteis went through his education process years ago, and has been working as an Architectural Engineer ever since, finding consistent success that has culminated in the foundation of his own company that now works with several New York-based companies.

Nicholas Dematteis - Things You Need To Know When Buying Your First Camera

When Nicholas Dematteis moved to New York to work as an architectural engineer, he started to develop a keen interest in photography, which he has continued to pursue since returning to Boulder, Colorado. He bought his first camera in the city, which is a challenge that every amateur photographer has to face at some point. The following tips are all things you should keep in mind when making your first purchase.
Nicholas Dematteis

Know Your Budget
While it can be tempting to spend as big as possible with the aim of buying a camera that will be suitable for all types of shots, you should not put yourself in financial difficulty to do so. Know how much you have to spend so that you can immediately eliminate any cameras that are too expensive from your shortlist. You can then start researching the ones that fall into your price range more intently.

Know Your Needs

It is also a good idea to understand what you want to take photographs of before buying a camera. For example, if you are hoping to take nature shots, it may be a good idea to avoid cameras that have a delay between pressing the button and actually taking the photograph. However, such cameras will be perfectly fine if you aim to do more portrait-based work.

Do Your Research
Nicholas Dematteis notes that there will always be reviews online about practically any type of camera that you consider purchasing, so try to gather as much information as possible from fellow photographers before committing.

Nicholas Dematteis - Signs That You Love Hiking

When he is not busy in his work as an architectural engineer, Nicholas Dematteis enjoys hiking as often as possible, which is an activity that he shares with his three children. He didn’t get to indulge in the hobby as much during the brief period that he lived in New York, so he has been making up for lost time ever since returning to Boulder, Colorado. As any experienced hiker knows, there are a number of signs that will tell you that you have fallen in love with the activity, including all of the below.

Nicholas Dematteis Your Own More Than One Rucksack

The rucksack is an essential tool for any hiker, but those who have started to really fall in love with the activity will soon find themselves building up a collection. Better yet, if you have different rucksacks for different sorts of hikes, you have a clear sign that you are in love with hiking and want to make sure that you are prepared for any hike, in any weather, at any time.

Your Shoes

As every experienced hiker knows, the quality of your walking boots is going to make all of the difference between whether you experience a comfortable or a difficult hike. Of course, those who have fallen in love with hiking will soon start to notice that they are building collections of walking boots when they really should be buying shoes for other occasions as well. Just don’t take it too far and start keeping older boots that are clearly past their sell-by dates.

You Plan Your Life Around The Weather

Bad weather is the enemy of any hiker, as adverse conditions can ruin any plans that you might have had, especially if you were thinking of taking on a more difficult trail. As such, if you have developed a habit of constantly checking the forecast so that you can make your hiking plans around it, that’s a sure sign that you are completely in love with the activity.

Your Physical Fitness Is Amazing

You rarely go to the gym and don’t maintain a fitness regime that is dedicated to improving any aspect of your body, but you still seem to find that you are in shape and feeling healthy. If that’s the case, odds are pretty good that you are a hiker. Hiking offers many fitness benefits, all while doing an activity that gets you closer to nature and allows you to see more stuff. Do it often enough and it is as good as going to the gym.

You’re Always on the Lookout for Trails

Whenever he travels to a new place, one of the first things that Nicholas Dematteis does is look for local hiking trails. Anybody who really loves hiking will probably do the same.

He has been able to grow his firm into a major success through out the last few years, and he hopes to continue to leave his mark on the infrastructure of the town.
Nicholas Dematteis

He goes hiking regularly to enjoy the environment, and can teach other people how to prepare for a hike of their very own.

The first thing you want to bring with you on a hike is water. Water is essential on any sort of hike, strenuous or leisurely, and typically people find that they need more than they brought. Make sure you have enough for your hike, and depending on how long your hike is, bring a filter so you can pick up water on the go.

Nicholas Dematteis also explains that you’ll want to wear comfortable pants or shorts when you’re hiking, not jeans. Having the right gear can make all the difference in your energy levels.

Nicholas Dematteis is an individual who has worked hard in order to secure the success of his professional future. He is currently serving as an architectural engineer in the city of Boulder, Colorado, and he is proud to be a major player in the community’s new infrastructure layout and design. He originally moved to the area in order to pursue his education, and he received his Masters of Science degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder in Architectural Engineering. He began his career by working for the government, but decided that he needed to branch out on his own after establishing himself in the industry.
                                              Nicholas Dematteis
Nicholas Dematteis has been living and working in Boulder, Colorado for the last decade, and he enjoys the outdoor opportunities living in the town provides. He has always been athletic and interested in long distance running, but running on the trails is almost a completely different activity. Here are some tips for those interested in trail running.

The first thing you have to remember if you want to get into trail running is that it is much harder. Though the surface you run might be softer than pavement, the terrain is constantly changing, and you have to be very aware of where you put your feet. Not only do you have to pay attention to where you step, but be ready for intense inclines as well.

Nicholas Dematteis, a former New York City professional, also tells people that trail running takes a lot more energy than running on the street; make sure you bring water with you when you go out, and maybe a snack as well.

Nicholas Dematteis - Tips for Taking the Perfect Photograph

Nicholas Dematteis is an individual who cares about the success of his professional career, and how that career impacts others in a positive way. He has always wanted to pursue a job that serves people, not just his financial well being, and he has accomplished this goal by serving as an architectural engineer. He received his Masters of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and began working for the government shortly after graduating from his advanced studies. After spending a brief amount of time in New York City learning even more about the industry, he returned to Boulder in order to continue his work for the community. He has built a reputation out of his hard work, and now owns his own engineering firm instead of working continuing his career in the government sector.

Nicholas Dematteis Nicholas Dematteis has been working as an architectural engineer for the last ten years, and he enjoys being such an influential force in the mountain community of Boulder, Colorado. However, he enjoys living in the area for several reasons outside his career; the mountains and abundance of outdoor opportunities appeal to him both as an outdoorsman, and as an amateur photographer. He has been interest in photography since he was a child, and continues to hone is craft by taking photographs of his beautiful surroundings. Here are some tips for other amateur photographers.

The first thing you want to keep in mind when you’re taking a picture is your subject. The subject of the shot, while it should be the main focus, doesn’t necessarily have to be the center of attention. When it comes to photographs of nature, it often makes more sense to keep the subject slightly off center in the image in order to get as much of the landscape as you can. In nature photos, the more you can display, the better the experience for the viewer.

In addition to making sure the subject of your shot is in the right place and fitting well with the surroundings, you’ll also want to make sure you use a steady hand when setting up the shot. The more steadily you can hold your camera, the clearer the picture will turn out once developed. A useful tool to help with steadiness is a tripod stand, which will take shaky hands out of the equation completely. This will allow you to keep your focus on the shot itself, and not your ability to hold the camera as still as possible. This type of stand will also allow you to be in the photos you take, as long as your camera has a capture delay.

Nicholas Dematte is enjoys being able to help others when it comes to taking pictures, and he is always willing to get out into nature and show people how its done.

Nicholas Dematteis - The Right Gear for the Rocky Mountains

Nicholas Dematteis is a dedicated business professional who is currently operating his own architectural engineering firm in Boulder, Colorado. He was attracted to the area because of his love for the outdoors and his spirit for adventure. He has always made it a point to stay physically active, and Boulder is the perfect environment for young professionals with a passion for the outdoors.
Nicholas Dematteis

Nicholas Dematteis can be found exploring the mountainous terrain, like many of the Boulder locals, when he isn’t furthering the success of his already successful engineering firm. Although he mostly hikes the area, he has been inspired by some of the more motivated locals who would rather run the trails than hike them. However, he realizes that if he wants to step up his activity level, he needs to have the right gear.

The first thing a fast hiker or jogger needs in the mountains is a solid pack. Packs are essential for the trail runner who needs to store water, snacks, and survival essentials for long stints in the mountains. The pack should also be waterproof to protect your gear from the elements, as well as your own back sweat, which will seep into the pack overtime.

The next thing you want is a decent pair of running shoes. Trail running shoes should be a little more durable than your roadrunners, and getting a Gortex protected shoe will probably be the best option to protect against puddles or mud.

Although this is not as essential, clothing designed for runners can improve your comfort level while you’re sweating on the trail, and it may be the thing you need to push yourself even further.

Nicholas Dematteis - Being Prepared to Start a Business

Nicholas Dematteis is a professional engineer who operates his own architectural engineering firm in Boulder, Colorado. It is a competitive field with respectable companies operating all over the country. The first thing to remember when starting a business is to have a solid business plan. You need to prepare well into the future when it comes to your company. This will help you convince investors to help financially, prepare for future growth, and fully understand where money is being spent.

The second thing to keep in mind is the customer. Your business is only successful as long as your customers are happy and continuously coming back. Nicholas Dematteis - How to Take the Perfect Picture

Nicholas Dematteis is a dedicated professional currently serving the town of Boulder, Colorado as an architectural engineer. He operates a business that is committed to serving the needs of his clients, and he has the reputation for being trustworthy, reliable, and professional. He has been serving in the industry for more than 10 years, first for the government, and now in the private sector.

When Nicholas Dematteis isn’t working to further the success of his already successful career, he is enjoying the natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains, and capturing that beauty via his camera. He has always had a talent for photography, and was even able to make some money as a freelancer in the field during undergraduate school. He is always willing to help out fellow amateurs in the field, friends, and family members take better pictures.

The first thing to remember when taking a picture, especially of the natural world, is the background. The background can make or break a picture, even though it technically isn’t the main focus. When in nature and capturing the environment, the background plays a major role in the overall essence of the shot.

The next thing you should keep in mind is steadiness. If the base you create for your camera is unstable, the image you capture will be unclear. Always make sure you set up your tripod or at least stand on a stable surface so the image can come out as clear as possible.

Nicholas Dematte is always follows these two simple rules when he is taking pictures of the environment.

Nicholas Dematteis - Ski Like a Professional

Skiing is a culture in Colorado. Nicholas Dematteis is a Colorado native and loves spending time on the slopes. He has been skiing since he was a child, and taught all of his own children how to ski. He loves spending the winter weekends rocketing down slopes all over the state. If you are interested in becoming a skier, here are a few tips on how to ski like a professional.

Lessons are important for adults and children. If you are a new skier, make sure to take a few lessons. If you have a friend or family member who is an expert skier, learn from that person. If you do not know any advanced skier, sign up for lessons at a ski resort. These lessons will ensure that you have the basics such as balancing, stopping, and accelerating, down before you head off to your first ski run.

If you are serious about taking up skiing, consider investing in some skis. It is important to have good, durable skis that you are comfortable using. You can also rent skis, but you will not have the same level of comfort as you would with your own skis. Also, if you intend to ski regularly, purchasing your own may turn out to be cheaper than renting them in the long run.

Practice is important. The only way to advance your skills is to practice. The more time you spend skiing, the better you will get. If you want to ski like a professional, spend time working on your technique. Nicholas Dematteis is an experienced skier, and has been on the slopes since his early childhood.

Nicholas Dematteis - The Benefits Of Being Charitable

During the course of his career, Nicholas Dematteis has used his skills as an architectural engineer to help organizations like Habitat For Humanity and Engineers Without Borders to help people who are less fortunate than himself. He believes that engaging in charity work in any form is beneficial for all of the following reasons.
Nicholas Dematteis

You Get To Help People

Knowing that something you have done has helped somebody in need is one of the greatest feelings you can experience. Through working as a volunteer you will have the opportunity to meet some wonderful people who have simply fallen on hard times, which allows you to enjoy a wonderful feeling of satisfaction after you have contributed to helping them get back on their feet.

It Helps Your Career

While some may feel it a little distasteful to talk about how charity work can help you in your career, the fact remains that many employers look positively on people who have volunteered their time to charitable organizations. Not only does it demonstrate that you have commitment to whatever cause is important to you, but it also shows that you are willing to go above and beyond to help with that cause.

Better Social Understanding

Nicholas Dematteis notes that it is often difficult for people who are not struggling with a situation to fully understand what people in that situation are going through. By volunteering your time to charity you will be able to expand your horizons and get a better understanding of the issues facing your community and the world at large.

Nicholas Dematteis - Tips For Starting A New Business

Nicholas Dematteis is currently enjoying the early years of business ownership, having recently left his position as a government employed architectural engineer to follow his dream and start his own firm. He has combined his existing skillset with business savvy and notes that everybody who opens a new business should consider the following issues.

Competition

Ideally you will want to open your business in an area that has high demand for your services, with very few competitors offering what you have to offer. While this isn’t always going to be possible, it is still important to consider ever competitor in your market and try to think of ways to offer your new client base services that they will not be able to find anywhere else.

Your Budget

The budget that your business operates to is important regardless of whether you have just opened up or have been in business for decades. You need to understand how much money you have at your disposal and how it can be used. Take your overheads into account and consider how much you can spend on things like marketing and your offices. Everything you spend or earn needs to be tracked so that you have accurate financial figures to work from.

Build Connections

During the course of his career as an architectural engineer, Nicholas Dematteis has been able to build a network of connections that he is now able to leverage to his own advantage now that he is a business owner. You must constantly make the effort to get your name out there amongst the movers and shakers in your field, creating and developing relationships that could lead to new opportunities later on down the line.

Nicholas Dematteis - Three Groups You Will Work With As An Architectural Engineer

During the course of a career that has spanned more than ten years and counting, Nicholas Dematteis has worked alongside many different people in order to get projects completed. He has noted that architectural engineers will usually end up working alongside all of the following groups at some stage of the project, so it is important to be prepared for each as you enter into the career.

Nicholas Dematteis

Architects

The architects you work with will play the largest part in the actual design of the building, often with your help along the way. It is their vision that you will be asked to help bring to life, so you need to build a good working relationship that allows for open communication. At times, an architect will bring an idea to the table that is not structurally sound, so you need to be able to explain why such ideas are not achievable, while working as hard as you can on the ones that are.

Construction Crews

In order to bring the project to life, you will need to enlist a construction crew that will be tasked with the actual building of the structure. Again, it is vital that you build a relationship with this crew and heed any advice that they have to offer. You also need to be able to communicate the project aims to them as and when required.

Project Stakeholders

The stakeholders in a project will usually be the people who end up owning the building after it has been erected, so Nicholas Dematteis notes that it is vital to form a strong relationship with them. Hold regular meetings to discuss the progress of the project and don’t be afraid to contribute your ideas. Your task is to bring what they want to life in whatever way you can, so always remember this when working on the design of a building.

Nicholas Dematteis - Traits An Engineer Must Have

During the course of his career, Nicholas Dematteis has worked alongside many different engineers. He has found that most people who manage to make a name for themselves in the industry share a number of similar traits, which he deems vital for those who are considering a career as an engineer themselves.
Nicholas Dematteis
Nicholas Dematteis
An Eye For Detail

When it comes to building structures, an eye for detail is absolutely vital if you are going to achieve all of the project aims. You need to be aware of anything that may cause issues with the project and be able to spot errors quickly. If you don’t, you may end up building a structure that is unsound, which can result in a wide range of issues and may even put people in danger.

Good Communication Skills

As a professional engineer, you will often be called upon to speak to people who are not familiar with the many technical issues that the role will lead you to facing. As such, a good engineer needs to be a skilled communicator in order to be able to talk about these issues in a way that other people will understand. These skills will also help you to build up a network of clients, which may prove useful if you choose to open your own firm.

Nicholas Dematteis - Architectural Versus Civil Engineers

What is the difference between an architectural and a civil engineer? Nicholas Dematteis is an architectural engineer with 15 years of experience in his field. He also understands that architectural engineering can often be confused with civil engineering due to the nature of these disciplines. He is always happy to explain the differences to those who are curious. Architectural and civil engineering both deal with construction, and they both focus on improving the quality of life within a community. However, they have two very different focuses.

Civil engineering focuses on the maintenance, design, and construction of an environment. They work with the natural environment, as well as the build environment to create roads, bridges, canals, dams, and buildings. Their goal is to improve the standard of living within an urban area and provide that area with necessities and conveniences. They ensure that a city is provided with water, and that buildings are able to withstand various natural disasters. There are several sub disciplines of civil engineering, such as, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, urban engineering, water resource engineering, and more.

Architectural engineering focuses solely on buildings. Their goal is also to improve the standard of living with in a community and to provide that community with safe buildings. They focus on designing structural systems and mechanical systems for a building. They are a specialized discipline that has no other job than to design buildings that are structurally sound and sustainable. Nicholas Dematteis has worked as an architectural engineer for 15 years and enjoys creating functional buildings for various communities.
